Prince of Persia: The Fallen King – first DS details

We knew it was coming to DS but details were thin on the ground. Today though Ubisoft has confirmed the title and a few snippets of info on the new Prince of Persia game for DS.

First off the game's full title will be Prince of Persia: The Fallen King. Its story is a standalone one that's different from the home console versions of the game, and takes the Prince to a deserted kingdom in search of sanctuary only for him to find the evil 'Corruption' – a dark substance that physically contaminates the land and skies – has got there before him. The Prince then must fight the spreading Corruption using his usual acrobatic combat moves.

It sounds kind of similar to previous games so far, but there's a bit of a twist coming up. For you'll also be able to play as an all-new character called the Magus and switch from him to the Prince at any point. The Magus has magical powers and can also fight and solve puzzles.

Other differences for the DS game include stylus controls – obviously – which are used for fighting and jumping about, and a brand new art design. The game also features over 50 maps, ranging from deserted cities and dark labyrinths to vast jungles.

Hopefully this'll all result in a game which is a bit better than Ubi's recent DS version of Assassin's Creed. We await the first screenshots eagerly – then we'll have an idea if Prince of Persia: The Fallen King is going to be majestically good compared to its home console counterparts. It's due for release at the end of the year.
