Ubisoft reveals new Prince of Persia

Release date pinned down to this year. Or, uh, next year

Ubisoft reveals new Prince of Persia

Squirreled away in its latest financial statement Ubisoft has revealed that a new Prince of Persia game will be released at some point during the company's next financial year, which runs from April this year until April 2009.

There's no confirmation on which platforms the game will be released on. But as there's yet to be a next-gen home console instalment and the company has just released the Prince-a-like game Assassin's Creed on Xbox 360 and PS3 (a version is also due on DS) we'd be willing to bet it'll hit those big consoles first. But various Prince of Persia games have graced PSP, DS and mobile over the years, so hopefully the handhelds won't be left out of the castle.

Most recently, Prince of Persia: Rival Swords was released on PSP and Prince of Persia Classic onto mobile. Prince of Persia: Warrior Within is the most recent game released on DS back in 2006.

Although considering the current online petition to persuade Ubisoft to bring Assassin's Creed to PSP, we wouldn't be holding our breath for a widescreen SKU.

Anyhow a new instalment seems well overdue, although who knows if Ubisoft will get back to basics with the game or continue along its present ever-darkening path.

The company is presently staying tight-lipped on the whole thing, and it's unlikely we'll hear more until it's ready to show the game for the first time. Still, at least Prince of Persia is definitely on it's way in some shape or form.
