A truth universally acknowledged

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies released on iPhone in New Zealand

We've had iPhone games based on a raunchy music video, a new car, and plenty of films, but its about time the New York Times's bestseller list got in on the action.

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, which is described by the author as "the classic regency romance - now with ultraviolent zombie mayhem" takes Jane Austen's public domain literary treat and imbues it with walking corpses.

And now it's an iPhone game, courtesy of Freeverse, creator of Warpgate and Flick Fishing. It's a side scrolling actiony beat-'em-up where Elizabeth Bennet slashes through armies of undead ghouls. It's got 12 stages, and a range of gesture based attacks to help you fend off the monsters.

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is available now on iPhone and iPod touch in New Zealand, which means it'll hit the UK App Store some time tomorrow. It'll be 59p / 99c / €0.79 when it hits international shops.
