Premiership Rugby Union 2006 tries out on mobile

Today sees the release of the Official Premiership Rugby Union 2006 game for mobile phone.

We don't expect a huge scrum for the title, what with football's World Cup about to kick off and rugby more a sport for outsized blokes with clod-sized hands (yes, okay, we did used to get stomped on in the ruck. But we're not bitter. Much).

But if you're the kind of chap who picks up the ball and runs with it, the title looks worth investigating: Premiership Rugby Union features every official team and player from the real-life league, and all the club logos, team colours and up-to-date player details you'd hope for are present and correct.

There are full tournament and season modes too, and we're told the game features both "7s and full 15s action", which means nothing to us but if you know your Jonny Wilkinson from your Wilkinson Sword it no doubt has you frothing.

Creative North Studios, the UK-based developer behind the game, has this corner of the field to itself – it previously created Rugby Super League. Premiership Rugby Union 2006 will initially be available in the UK on the O2 network.
