The bigwigs who oversee snooker must have been glancing over at cricket and sighing heavily when they saw the audience figures increase. Purists may have complained loudly, but the faster 20/20 format for the traditional English summer sport has certainly drawn in the crowds.

So now it’s snooker’s turn to win back fans with a revamped format, known as Power Snooker. To celebrate this new 30 minute, point-based reimagining, Big Head Games is bringing out the sport's first official app for both iPhone and iPad.

Power Snooker features nine red balls and a ‘Power Ball’ on the table, with each contributing points to the total, and the power ball multiplying the points for two minutes.

The title supports OpenFeint for leaderboards and achievements, and uses the International Snooker engine for all its physics calculations.

Power Snooker is expected to be fully chalked up and ready to break on the 28th of October.
