Back in September, EA announced a version Populous was in development for DS. But it's all been a bit quiet since then. In fact, the only information available comes from a recent issue of Japanese games magazine Famitsu.

According to the publication, the god game remake will feature both touchscreen and classic controls, isometric visuals and four different play modes: Challenge, Free Play, Gallery and a Versus mode for up to four players to link up and take part in.

The game, which traditionally gives you control of a deity responsible for growing civilisations through the ages via divine intervention, will also come packed with maps, including the most popular examples from the many previous editions of Populous on other formats.

The screenshots above have just appeared on EA's official Japanese site and show the game's looking rather good on DS. It's scheduled for release in Japan on February 21st but there's no word at all on when it might appear in Europe. Let's hope we won't be left waiting an ungodly amount of time.
