As has been further underlined by today's rash of #culturallybritishtaxbreakgames hashtags, Twitter remains the hyperventilating soul of society.

So why not a game based around live tweets?

That's what Poptweets is all about as you choose a subject category of tweets - anything from celebrity to science, foodies, movies, or politics - and then guess from the three offered sources whose tweet it is.

Each time you have to guess before the counter times down to zero, and as you build up more successive correct answers your score multipler increases.

You can get nine answers wrong before it's Game Over, with top scores and achievements provided and promoted by the OpenFeint social gaming networking (including Facebook and Twitter support of course.)

Full circle

Neatly, you can also suggest new Twitterers to be included, as well as viewing tweets and retweeting them, all from within the game.

"The app combs through the tweets pumped out by hundreds of celebs and ensures that the tweets that enter our game are interesting, identifiable, and often hilarious," explains Derek van Vliet of developer Get Set Games.

"It's amazing how involved you can get while playing - reading what the most famous people in the world have to say about their lives, their careers, and their passions."

Poptweets is ad-funded and so free to download, and out now.
