Gameloft's virtual reality show makes you the star

Pop Superstar spoofs Pop Idol on mobile

With 817 weeks of the latest series of The X Factor still to go (or so it feels), you'd be forgiven for getting a bit weary of TV talent shows. Gameloft's Pop Superstar: Road To Celebrity could be the antidote, though.

It's a tongue-in-cheek take on the Pop Idol / X Factor phenomenon, with you starring as a wannabe singer looking for your big break.

It looks like a Miami Nights-style strategy game, where you have to plot your way to music stardom while also keeping your personal relationships under control (including a party-hard mother, bored romantic partner, and skullduggerous rival contestants).

It looks good, as you can see from the screenshots, but the game's impish sense of humour promises to set it above the crowd. We're particularly liking the MeAndMyLife.net MySpace parody, which you can see in the fifth pic above.

There'll be 38 locations to explore spread across ten environments, and the game is due to launch soon. Spend £5 on this or a tenner on the Paul Potts album? No contest!
