If there’s one type of game the DS has whipped, it’s puzzle games. Thanks to the neat touchscreen and stylus combo, it’s really easy to select and move characters or pieces around. Which is the basic idea behind Pokémon Trozei.

Just like the rocket-puzzler Meteos, where you had to line up rows or columns of symbols to launch them into space, Pokémon Trozei gets you creating and collecting lines of Pokémon.

The basic objective is to get a trozei - that’s a line of four of the same type of Pokémon - either horizontally or vertically, by moving Pokémon around using your stylus. Once you do, the line will disappear, which is a good thing as more Pokémon keep falling down the screen. And, as we all know from games like Tetris, it’s all over when the Pokémon reach the top of the screen. By creating a trozei, you’ll also add that particular Pokémon species in your Pokédex library, and you’ve gotta collect them all - which in this case is over 380 types of Pokémon.

To succeed you’ll need able to create combos. First you need to get a trozei, then you can build on this and get a chain reaction by also lining up three-in-a-row and then two-in-a-row to clear a massive nine Pokémon. Trozei Chance blocks sometimes fall down, too. For a limited time, you can use these to create and clear other shapes such as ‘T’s or ‘L’s.

In terms of modes, there will be two single player options. One is story-based, where you have to rescue stolen Pokémon from the evil Phobos Battalion. There are two multiplayer modes as well, including a head-to-head battle mode. More co-operatively, you can exchange Agent Cards via the Espionage Mode, which will give you the chance to catch rare Pokémon that you don’t have but your friends have seen. You can also share a demo version of the game - Pokémon Trozei Mini - with your none-Trozei-owning mates.
