It's Christmas. That means the staff of Pocket Gamer is drunk, if not on alcohol then on the giddying sensation that comes from receiving numerous expensive presents.

All this frivolity means we're not writing stories today. To enable you to connect with us in a different way - one that doesn't involve the transmission of news, reviews, and features concerning the world of portable gaming - we've decided to go on about ourselves a bit.

Meet Wayne, Pocket Gamer's northernmost intern. An accomplished writer, musician, and stage performer, Wayne has lived in London and Las Vegas. A man of our age, a man about town, and above all a man's man, Wayne has no hobbies and lives alone.

Favourite portable gaming platform?

Boringly enough, I'm going to go with the iPhone.

Although I'm fond of the DS, it can't compete with the sheer number of quality games available for iPhone. You also have to consider the much lower average price and the hundreds of brilliant freebies on the App Store.

Favourite portable game of the year...

Thumpies appeared on Samsung Apps recently as a free download, and instantly became my favourite game on the Wave. For those unfamiliar, it's a manic rhythm game with some brilliant music and bucketloads of silliness.

Did I mention it was free?

...and of all time

Well it's not originally a portable game, but I'd have to say the 15 year old Chrono Trigger on DS. Arguably one of the best RPGs of all time.

Favourite home console game of the year...

I haven't actually done much in the way of console gaming this year, but I did have a brief play of Red Dead Redemption, so I guess I'll go with that.

...and of all time

It's hard to choose a favourite from the series, but I'll opt for the oft-overlooked Final Fantasy VIII. To my mind, it still has the best storytelling of any Final Fantasy game.

That said, my favourite game of all time has to be Sensible World of Soccer on the Amiga 1200.

Will you be getting a 3DS?

Possibly, though I think I'll wait to see a few games reviewed on Pocket Gamer before making a decision. Hopefully we'll see more than just a handful of novelty showcases for the 3D display.

What are you hoping to get for Christmas?

I'm quite certain I'm on Santa's naughty list this year, but I'd really like to get my hands on a new laptop as my old one is ready for retirement.

What's your new year's resolution?

I'm going to attempt to quit smoking (again) and start exercising every day. Just like last year.
