iPhone gaming podcast: Episode 141 - Return of the Will

I’m back and joined by Jon in the podcast booth to discuss the latest happenings in the world of iOS.

There’s not as much gripping news as normal, thanks to America being on holiday for once, but there’s still an iPhone 5 rumour to chew over, a Sonic-based pack o’ tat, the mysterious case of the similar-sounding Sky Gamblers: Rise of Glory (to Rise of Glory), and the small fact that Grand Prix Story is out now on iPhone.

New releases are better structured this time around, as we segue into discussing whether games that feel like they’re from 20 years ago are better than ones that actually play like games from 20 years ago.

Remember, you can always have a read of the full list I’m working from and try and work out the games I rather brusquely dismiss as ‘crap’ from screenshots, if you like.

We’ve been playing a slew of relatively old releases, thanks to me being away and Jon being Jon. I talk about Contre Jour and Hector: Episode 2 from a fortnight ago (as well as giving a quick mention to DrawRace 2), while Jon’s been steaming up the water with Crimson Steam Pirates and Doodle Jump on iPad (hint: it’s a lot like Doodle Jump on iPhone).

Heads-up: there are adverts on the podcast again (beginning and end), but at least the audio quality is back to normal, right? Yes.

Will's obsession with gaming started off with sketching Laser Squad levels on pads of paper, but recently grew into violently shouting "Tango Down!" at random strangers on the street. He now directs that positive energy into his writing (due in no small part to a binding court order).
