Astraware has announced it's releasing a smartphone version of Platypus, which was originally a game for PC and Mac.

It's a side-scrolling shoot-'em-up whose main innovation is that everything's made from clay. So when you shoot enemies, they explode in the kind of splat only previously seen when Morph got under Tony Hart's feet.

Nasty business.

Anyway, Platypus is coming out for Palm OS and Windows Mobile smartphones and PDAs, although Astraware says it'll be out for Symbian Series 60 and UIQ handsets in the next couple of months, too.

The game has four worlds, each made up of several individual levels. It costs $19.95 and is available now on Astraware's website.
