PopCap Games has a reputation for not rushing its games onto iPhone and iPod touch - where's Zuma we wonder?.

But tucked away at the bottom of a press release about a Plants vs. Zombies PC and Mac retail release, was the news the game is coming to App Store.

We don't know much more though as the statement read;

"PopCap today also announced that Plants vs. Zombies is being adapted for the iPhone and iPod touch, and is expected to become available for those devices via App Store launch around the end of this year."

Obviously the smaller screen size and touch controls will be key things to get right, but it's hard to see these as being overly difficult problems to overcome.

Plants vs. Zombies is PopCap's fastest selling game to date, and as has you pitting your mutant flowers, vines, trees and other zombie-combating vegetation to thwart the undead's onslaught as they try to take over your house and munch your brains.

Basic gameplay sees you using sunlight as a resource to grow more plants and stop those zombies.

This is also backed up - at least in the PC version - with five different modes including several dozen mini-games and puzzles, plus infinitely replayable Adventure and Survival modes

There was no mention of cost but considering PopCap's usual modus operandi, we'd expect a $4.99 or £2.99 launch price.
