Colour-matching games have become something of a staple diet for puzzle fans, so it's nice to see someone make an effort to break from the normal Bejeweled style clone.

Pinch 'n Pop could only loosely be described as a Bejeweled clone, as indie developer Chaotic Box has come up with a great alternative to the usual well-regimented coloured shapes. The screen rapidly fills up with cell-like, googly-eyed Squirms of various colours. You push, flick and pull them around until similar coloured Squirms are next to each other, then 'pinch' them together to make a larger Squirm. Once three have been pinched together, they pop.

Simple, but very entertaining to watch as the befuddled Squirms jostle for space on the iPhone screen. Check out the gameplay vid below, then swing by the App Store to check Pinch 'n Pop out. Don't forget to hit 'Track It!' for more Squirmy news as it happens.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
