Drop a coin in Amiga's Pinball Fantasies on iPhone

Classic pinball sim sequel rolled out onto App Store

Drop a coin in Amiga's Pinball Fantasies on iPhone

Hard to believe it was way back in February that the classic Amiga pinball simulator Pinball Dreams (considered to be one of the finest examples of a digital pinball machine, even now) was adapted for the iPhone. It was big news then, given that retro remakes were still pretty much virgin territory on Apple's handheld.

Anyway, we've been waiting since then for the 1992 sequel to bounce out onto the iPhone, so we're delighted to see Pinball Fantasies has just landed.

Four different tables - Partyland, Speed Devils, Billion Dollar Game Show and Stones & Bones - should revitalise your nostalgic bent, while the technological upgrades to the iPhone adaptation will help the game compete against the likes of the superb Monster Pinball and Zen Pinball.

Both Pinball Dreams and Pinball Fantasies now run at an impressive 60 frames per second on all iDevices (though you're advised to turn off mail fetching and wi-fi on the iPhone 3G), and the menus screens have been revamped with flashy new graphics.

And, as if that's not enough, owners of the game can visit the new Cowboy Rodeo website for access to a special VIP area, where free remixes from the game's original musician Olof Gustafsson are available.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
