Phoenix Wright coming to mobile phones

Not excited by this one? We'll see you in court!

Phoenix Wright coming to mobile phones

The legal drama is a staple of television, but the rations are much more meager when it comes to video games. In fact, Capcom pretty much owns the field with its Phoenix Wright series, and so it's a good thing that Mr Wright is no Mr Wrong.

Indeed, Phoenix Wright – that is you, dear player, as you step into his shoes – is a hotshot defence attorney, who cross-examines witnesses mercilessly and draws out confessions to prove that even the guiltiest looking of his clients is actually innocent.

But being Phoenix is not just a matter of bashing away at conversation choices. Well, it sort of is, but (a) that's surprisingly entertaining in a court of law, and (b), to rewind a bit, your day in court is proceeded by a stint at each crime scene, gathering clues and interviewing witnesses to help you build your case.

All the characters from the previous versions of the game are present, from Phoenix's bright and somewhat psychic sidekick Maya Fey to arch-rival Miles Edgeworth, as are the first few missions. The rest will be available as subsequent downloads. We presume you'll have to pay more for those, but don't know for sure (and we don't want to end up in a real court due to random speculation…)

Capcom has a good track record when it comes to pocket gaming, so the arrival of its top quality titles for mobile shows just what a sweet spot phone gamers now occupy. And we loved Phoenix Wright on the Nintendo DS; our Paul Drury rewarded it with an entertaining review, as well as innumerable marks (well, nine to be precise).
