Rumours apparently originating from the latest Famitsu magazine in Japan suggest a new Phoenix Wright adventure could be on its way. And it's one that shuns both Phoenix and newcomer Apollo and puts you instead in the expensive leather shoes of bad-prosecutor-turned-slightly-nicer Miles Edgeworth. Brilliant.

As reported here, the game – which goes by the name Perfect Prosecutor – is more of a spin-off than the next in the series. It'll have players searching crime scenes for evidence and inconsistencies as normal, albeit as Edgeworth. Which should put a whole new spin on things. The other main character to get a name-check, fans of the hapless Sherlock will be pleased to hear, is detective Dick Gumshoe.

New search and deduction systems will apparently be introduced but no other information about the gameplay has been revealed. Obviously we can expect an entirely new story and getting to play the prosecutor instead of defence attorney should shake things up quite a bit (we're not sure if Edgeworth is going up against either Phoenix or Apollo in the courtroom, though).

Hopefully all will be revealed or at least confirmed by Capcom at some point. Alas, the Ace Attorney games notoriously take a while getting localised for western release so, if it is coming, don't expect it here any time soon.
