GPS RPG places virtual world on top of yours

GPS game Parallel Kingdom: Age of Gathering coming to iPhone as well as Android

GPS is becoming as common as Bluetooth in mobile handsets, and considering the iPhone and G1 Android both have it built in there’s no reason game developers can’t make frivolous and entertaining use of it.

And that’s exactly what this new game, Parallel Kingdom: Age of Gathering, intends to do. The role playing game uses GPS to overlay the virtual world on top of the real world, and apparently it’s been geared up to work in every country.

In the game you’ll be able to encounter creatures to fight for gold, items and resources, while interacting with other players and competing globally. But you’ll also be able to stake out territories in the real world, and battle, chat and generally role play with other local Parallel Kingdom players.

This is a significant update to the US-based Age of Exploration. The servers for the original game will go offline on March 25th, and all current players will be upgraded to Age of Gathering when the new servers come online on March 28th.

And the best news? Parallel Kingdom: Age of Gathering will be completely free on both the Android and iPhone platforms. Nice.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
