Pandemonium goes mobile

3D phone thrills for a classic Eidos title

Pandemonium goes mobile

The problem with whizzy 3D mobile games is the controls. Moving around in a free-roaming 3D environment is fine on a TV screen using a console joypad, but more problematic on a small mobile display using a keypad.

A novel approach to this challenge could be seen in Eidos' Pandemonium, which was based on a PlayStation franchise, and became one of the launch titles for the original N-Gage phone.

The visuals were 3D, and pretty stunning they were too. But the way you moved through the worlds was actually 2D, making it easy to control.

Anyway, all this is a preamble to the fact that Pandemonium is now coming to regular mobile phones.

You play two characters: a trainee wizard called Nikki, and a loony jester called Fargus, who comes with his own puppet-on-a-stick called Sid. As you do. The game involves roaming through a series of colourful 3D levels, and as you can see, it's already looking spiffing.
