3D gaming now a possibility on Palm’s iPhone killer

Doom and Quake hit Palm Pre thanks to webOS update

Palm’s much-loved Pre phone has managed to woo consumers worldwide with its gorgeous exterior and excellent operating system, but one area where it’s so far failed to impress is gaming.

Thankfully, that now seems to be a thing of the past as the recently launched webOS 1.3.5 update includes support for 3D gaming, as well as offering developers the opportunity to gain direct access to the phone’s graphical muscle - something that previously wasn’t possible.

As if to prove the raw gaming potential of the phone, videos have hit the net showing id Software’s Doom and Quake running on the Pre.

Could this be the moment where Palm’s much-hyped device finally starts to gain significant ground on the all-powerful iPhone? Possibly, but let’s not forget that a new year usually means a new hardware launch from Apple, and chances are every other manufacturer will be playing catch-up yet again.

Damien's mum hoped he would grow out of playing silly video games and gain respectable employment. Perhaps become a teacher or a scientist, that kind of thing. Needless to say she now weeps openly whenever anyone asks how her son's getting on these days.
