Re-mastered Pac-Man goes mobile multiplayer

Play as ghosts, as well as the eponymous dot eater

Re-mastered Pac-Man goes mobile multiplayer

Lorks a-lordy! A Pac-Man game for the mobile! Oh, wait. Hasn't there been about 5,000 of these already?

Well, yes and no. This time we're getting some pretty awesome new features in Namco's re-mastered mobile Pac-Man – most important being Bluetooth multiplayer.

"Pac-Man is still arguably the most popular computer game character of all time. It is immensely exciting for Namco Bandai to launch this re-mastered version with multiplayer functionality and online rankings," said Barry O'Neill, president of Namco Bandai Networks Europe.

"We want consumers to see how great Pac-Man looks nearly 30 years after he first appeared; this update of the classic adds a fantastic new social element to an already great game and we think the total package will be of huge appeal to gaming veterans and newcomers alike."

Naturally you still get the maze-munching antics you expect from the dot eater, with 256 levels and an automatic resume function if you switch off mid-game. What gets us more than a little excited, however, is the possibility for up to four players to Bluetooth up and takes turns as ghosts and Pac-Man.

To even the odds a little, when playing as the ghosts there's a tight fog-of-war feature obscuring your view of the maze – allowing the Pac-Man player that little extra advantage to make up for the uneven odds. With four different mazes for you and your ethereal buddies to chase around in, this marks quite an excellent development after nearly three decades of Pac-Man gaming.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
