If the amount of utility software developed for piece of new hardware was the mark of success, PSP would be the king of multimedia. Latest company to add its voice of support is Nullriver. Its PSPWare is available for both Mac OS X and Windows XP and allows you to synchronise your favourite PC-based music, photos and movies onto your PSP memory stick.

The system works by letting you specify the files you want to sync, with PSPWare dealing with automatic syncing on a day-to-day basis, even working in reverse backing up your PSP game saves onto your PC.

And it’s certainly a fully featured piece of technology. It integrates with iTunes, allowing you to check in any playlists you want sent over to PSP. The photo swapping can be integrated with Window picture folders, while movies are automatically converted and optimised for PSP’s widescreen, with supported formats including MOV, MPG, AVI, WMV and VOB. There’s even the addition of podcast software so you can listen to live-recorded audio streams on your PSP.

Another neat trick is the ability to set up Sync Profiles, which allows you to have dedicated memory sticks for different content, so you can use your biggest one for movies and smallest one for photos.

PSPWare v2 is available as a free trial download (3 MB) and can be registrated for $15 from www.nullriver.com/index/products/pspware.win
