Capcom will continue supporting PSP
Publisher denies rumours it's giving up on the format
Capcom has responded to rumours that it is quitting PSP game development by saying they are "100 per cent false."
Replying to reader questions posed over on the Capcom-Unity blog, biz-dev Christian Svensson said, "We're still making new PSP games."
"We may be the most successful PSP publisher in the world with Monster Hunter Portable 2nd and 2ndG. It'd be a difficult decision to defend stopping development when we have such success on the platform," Svensson added.
Here in Europe, PSP console sales aren't particularly strong. But in the US and Japan the PSP regularly outsells other platforms – in Japan in particular Sony's handheld has been sitting at the top of the hardware charts for most of this year, partly thanks to the success of Monster Hunter 2nd G (and more recently Sega's Phantasy Star Portable).
Currently Capcom's release schedule looks a little barren of PSP releases, although it's not alone in this – most publishers appear to be offering little in the way of forthcoming PSP titles. However, by the sounds of things that might be changing in the near future for Capcom at least. We'll be watching.
