Syphon Filter: Combat Ops PSP details revealed

Previously unannounced multiplayer Syphon Filter expansion turns up on Logan's Shadow

Syphon Filter: Combat Ops PSP details revealed

We've finished playing through Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow (pictured – read the review here) and couldn't help noticing a demo for Syphon Filter: Combat Ops included on the UMD.

"What in the God of Ballistics is this," you ask? It's a fair question. Combat Ops is an unannounced multiplayer-only Syphon Filter game. We'll bring you a preview soon, but for now we can disclose it offers fully customisable multiplayer maps created in Mission Modifier mode (you can remix pre-existing maps or create them from scratch).

A maximum of eight players can enjoy these through either ad-hoc or infrastructure support, and they should expect to find the same multiplayer game types as those in Logan's Shadow – that's deathmatch, team deathmatch, retrieval, sabotage and rogue agent.

Effectively, it's a map editor that we suspect would have been included in Logan's Shadow but probably didn't fit in the UMD. As an expansion rather than a standalone game, we suspect it'll turn up for download.

We'll have to wait and see, however, as there's yet been no confirmation from Sony about any of this – we're simply going by what we've found while reviewing the latest Syphon Filter PSP outing.
