PSP Slim Japan release details emerge

Three new colour schemes and digital TV tuner also revealed

Product: PSP Slim & Lite | Manufacturer: Sony
Sony's official Japanese PlayStation website reveals the redesigned PSP is due to hit the nation's shops on September 20th, priced at „19,800 (£79; EUR 117 – clearly these are simply direct currency conversions and not representative of the price you can expect to pay for the European model, which is likely to be closer to the £100/EUR 148 mark).

Unlike the three colours expected in the west (Piano Black, Ceramic White and Ice Silver), Japanese gamers will get an additional three hues to tempt them into purchasing the latest version of Sony's handheld, namely Rose Pink, Lavender Purple and Felicia Blue.

Also available for launch is a digital TV tuner unit („6,980; £28; EUR 42) and the appropriate connection cables (composite, S-video, D-terminal and component) for the new PSP's video-out function.

No date has yet been given in the west other than last week's announcement of a September worldwide launch. We had hoped for a September 1st European arrival, if only to mirror the PSP's original 2005 debut in this continent (Sony has traditionally shown itself to be a fan of echoing previous launch dates), however the Japanese date would suggest this is now unlikely.

Obviously we'll bring you any news as soon as we get it, but for now, you can always head over to the Japanese PlayStation site yourself.

The trick would be to convert it exactly and retail it at £80. That would be quite a coup.
