NCsoft to bring PSP its first MMOG

Renowned MMO developer NCsoft has signed an exclusivity agreement with Sony Computer Entertainment that will see the company work on several titles for the PSP and PS3.

The games themselves have yet to be announced but they will be based on both existing NCsoft properties and new concepts.

And given the Korean company's history, we expect this agreement to lead to the PSP's very first Massively Multiplayer Online Roleplaying Game.

The company certainly sounds bullish. "This is a great step forward for online gaming," said Geoff Heath, CEO of NCsoft Europe, while presumably scouring the surroundings for items that could speed up his leveling. "With the internet-enabled PSP, we're confident that SCEI and NCsoft can develop unique and compelling online experiences that will be found on no other platform."

Having created previous MMO hits such as the ridiculously successful Lineage and Guild Wars, NCsoft's track record in this field is enviable, and it is perhaps the best placed company to make the prospect of an MMO on PSP a reality. In other words, such a project couldn't be in better hands.

At this stage there are no other details but fear not – we've got our avatars surrounding the developer's offices and will therefore report on further news as soon as any sneaks out. Until then, check out our recent article exploring the lack of online titles on PSP and DS.
