Sony announces UK PSP price cut

Handheld to cost £130 from May

Product: Sony PSP | Manufacturer: Sony
Sony has just announced a lower price point for PSP. As of Friday May 4th, you'll be able to purchase the handheld for £130 (or just EUR 170 in the rest of Europe), representing a £20 reduction from its current suggested retail price. Of course, you can expect online retailers to further reduce that figure.

It's a welcome move, obviously, although critics may immediately point out it's a reduction that is likely to lack the necessary aggression to fully compete with the price of Nintendo's £99 DS. Then again, they are very different machines, both technically and with regards to their function within the handheld space, and the new price should certainly convince a number of consumers to opt for Sony's machine.

In a related announcement, the publisher has revealed a further five titles are to be added to its lower-priced Platinum range.

You should expect to soon pick up Ridge Racer 2, Tekken: Dark Resurrection, Killzone: Liberation, LocoRoco and MotoGP for just £15. Check those links for our reviews.

I can't see this lifting sales significantly - especially over the late spring/ summer period. Still if you're currently in the market for one it's all right.

I don't know about that Brown. It's amazing how even small price cuts can boost sales figures & it's always been something Sony's been very good at manipulating and backing up with marketing. I'd expect Euro PSP sales to be up 50 percent by compared to 2006.
