The revelation of the expected revamped model aside, E3 hasn't been the most exciting show from a PSP perspective. We've hardly been inundated by a barrage of new titles, for instance, and instead the focus has been on getting more of an insight into previously announced titles.

One positive to take away from L.A. is that the lack of PSP games, and specifically strong, original PSP games, hasn't escaped Sony. Indeed, speaking to Eurogamer, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe's president David Reeves admitted the problem but disclosed work is under way to rectify the situation, both in terms of third party and internal output.

But part of the strategy, apparently, extends beyond simply commissioning PSP-specific titles. "We're thinking of moving some of the stuff we have on the Network on to PSP," revealed Reeves, before mentioning party game Calling All Cars as a prime example. "We may repurpose it for PSP," he confirmed.

On the subject of the redesigned hardware, Reeves also defended the reasoning behind not including certain features such as a hard drive, a seemingly logical addition and long-demanded by gamers.

"We looked at them and they were too expensive," he argued, also adding that its inclusion would have contributed to the overall weight of the system, a key factor in its perceived portability.

However, he did add it's something the company may consider going forward, particularly now that hard drive prices have reduced significantly. "I think it's definitely possible later, yes."

For now we'd argue the focus has to be on the quality and range of the software available for PSP which, thankfully, would appear to be something Sony is aware of, and working to improve. Time will obviously tell how successful the company really is in this respect, especially as we heard very similar promises from UK boss Ray Maguire in March.
