Franchise goes third-person, looks good

E3 2008: Sony announces Resistance Retribution for PSP

Sony has just unveiled Resistance: Retribution, the PSP edition of its popular home console first-person shooter, during its E3 press conference.

Except on PSP it's gone third-person. Which is probably a very wise move, given how first-person shooters have fared to date on the handheld.

It's also being developed by Sony Bend, responsible for the excellent Syphon Filter PSP games. So that's exciting.

Anyway, it's due in spring 2009 and from the footage shown it's looking very promising, with all-out action in cities, sewers, and alien spaceships. There's great animation on the characters and the 3D environments look well realised. Though detail wasn't easy to spot given the amount of bullets and explosions onscreen.

We'll have more on Resistance: Retribution soon. Sony also announced other PSP titles at the conference such as Super Stardust Portable (follow the link to read more).
