PixelJunk to drop PSP over piracy issues

GamesIndustry.biz has picked up on a series of Tweets from Q Games founder Dylan Cuthbert, who's been speaking of his company's woes over piracy of PixelJunk Monsters on the PSP.

"I don't think we'll port anything else to the PSP, we have to see how PJMD does as there's a *lot* of piracy," Cuthbert said to one of the game's fans via Twitter.

The PSP isn't the only handheld that's causing developers and publishers to question the value of releasing new games for the platform. Nintendo is still fighting its way through the Japanese courts over sales of the now-illegal DS flash carts, while ngmoco spoke of the prolific piracy of its iPhone games recently.

But Cuthbert remains vaguely optimistic that, even if the hardware manufacturers have failed to implement lasting anti-piracy measures, maybe a decreasing number of games will begin to play on the conscience of game copiers.

"Because Monsters is such a good fit it is being pirated I think, maybe the pirates will buy the full version out of guilt?"

We can only hope.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
