Ubisoft brings Petz games to PSP

Wide screen debut for little girls' companions

Product: Petz: Saddle Club | Publisher: Ubisoft | Genre: Casual, Sports
If you haven't been following Ubisoft's Petz series, that's because you clearly have no contact with either daughter, niece or godchild aged seven or less.

The only thing we can say about the DS line, which has to-date has covered Baby Pandas, Catz, Dogz, Horsez, Ponyz, Monkeyz, plus combinations of the above in veterinary and beauty pageant contexts, as well as various endangered species, is that it's monster. (Maybe even Monzterouz.)

But several million Nintendo carts ain't enough, so the PSP versions of Petz: My Baby Hamster and Petz: My Puppy Family will find their way on UK shelves this Friday. Petz: Saddle Club (pictured) has been scheduled for a November hop over the retail gate.

And the reason for letting you know? Well, only that while the cost of making these games is low, it's a clear sign that Ubisoft is fairly confident the PSP has filtered down to this age group in considerable numbers.

Of course, the company's Petz focus remains firmly on the DS, with Petz: Nursery, Petz: Dogz Superstar as well as Peppa Pig and several new Imagine games due for release before the summer holidays start. Still, maybe Sony's claims about the widespread adoption of PSP weren't as far off the mark as we originally thought.

Petz: My Baby Hamster and Petz: My Puppy Family for PSP are due for release on 19th June.

It's when the virtual horses start to arrive, that you really need to start worrying about shovelware. K9s are the first step, but Petz is one of the bigger licenses so there's no need to worry quite yet
