Konami blasts from the past targeting PSP

Parodius, TwinBee, and Salamander collections announced

Konami blasts from the past targeting PSP

More classic shooter action from Konami is on its way, with three compilation UMDs following in the trail blazed by its recent (and highly recommended) effort, Gradius Collection (shown).

All three collections will feature five classic slices of retro heaven. Parodius Portable includes 1990's Parodius, Gokujou Parodius (1994), Jikkyou Oshaberi Parodius (1995), the superbly named Sexy Parodius (1996) and an as yet secret fifth inclusion.

TwinBee Portable includes TwinBee (1985), Datana! TwinBee (1991), TwinBee Yahho! (1995), TwinBee (1996), and an unannounced fifth game.

And of course no Konami classic shoot 'em up collection would be complete without 1986 favourite, Salamander. Unsurprisingly, then, you'll find this alongside Lifeforce (1987), Xexex (1991), Salamander 2 (1996), and, you've guessed it, a mystery fifth addition.

As with the other two titles, Salamander Portable is due for release in Japan this January.

No official details have been given on the undisclosed fifth game present promised for each UMD, though common sense would suggest some kind of reworking of the original title from each series. No word yet on UK dates either, but we'll fire some news your way as soon as we hear anything. (Click 'Track It!' to ensure you get it).

Incidentally, what do you think about all these PSP retro collections? All good fun, or a retrograde step for a shiny new-ish handheld? Let us know in the comments below.
