Sony has been up on stage at GamesCom talking about its plans for digitally distributed gaming, with a new piece of PlayStation Network real estate being set aside for smaller, bite sized games at low, low prices (whether this is Primark 'low' or Sony 'low' remains unclear).

Pegged as 'minis', this new budget range of digitally distributed PSP games will have a 100MB file size limit, and is apparently aimed at developers new to Sony's handheld platform.

To coincide with the launch of the PSPgo on 1st October, 15 minis will be immediately available for download including games like Alien Havoc, Puzzle Scrape, Sudoku and Tetris - nothing that's going to justify the £225 pricetag of the hardware all on its own, but still an important part of the PSP rebirth.

Sony promises the number of minis will grow to 50 before Christmas, both from emerging developers like Gameshasta and Halfbrick Studios, as well as the major players like EA.

Yes. Spanner's his real name, and he's already heard that joke you just thought of. Although Spanner's not very good, he's quite fast, and that seems to be enough to keep him in a regular supply of free games and away from the depressing world of real work.
