PSP explodes in boy's pocket
Okay, it overheated. But he was taken to hospital with apparent PSP-related burns
Yes, it's a slow news day today. Still, this story may well illustrate the dangers to anyone thinking of keeping their PSP for long periods of time near delicate areas.
A Detroit schoolboy was reportedly taken to hospital yesterday with burns suffered after the PSP he had in his pocket overheated.
Firefighters were called to the school at around 8.30am and treated the seventh grader for burns to his leg before he was transported to hospital. No one else was hurt and the boy's injuries appear not to be severe.
An investigation has been launched into what caused the PSP to overheat, however in our experience they don't tend to heat up significantly, even if used for hours at a time. And if left turned on for a period of time, they should go into standby mode.
It seems possible it could have been a faulty unit, or perhaps one being used with an unofficial battery pack. There have been reports in the past of these causing PSP consoles to explode and Sony's website states that failure to use a genuine PSP battery pack could result in a malfunction or an accident.
And we thought it was just a ploy to get you to buy official merchandise.
