E3 2009: Kaz Hirai: PSP Go! will not replace PSP

Kaz Hirai has just got on stage at E3 to talk about the PSP Go!, calling it ‘the worst kept secret of E3’ to the amusement of the assembled journalists. Apparently, the device won’t replace the PSP, retailing alongside it as a different kind of device.

Not only that, but Sony will continue to support UMD. It seems both camps were right: Sony is both getting rid of and keeping UMD.

Media Go! will enable PSP Go owners to access all kinds of media, and something called SenseMe will play songs that fit with your mood.

Will be available at $249 in the US and 249 Euros in Europe. PSP toolkits will be cheaper for developers by 80 per cent, encouraging more to get involved in PSP development. Good move.
