Gameloft has announced that its highly regarded iPhone first person shooter, N.O.V.A.: Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance, is on its way to PSP through the Minis service.

The announcement, which was made through the publisher’s Facebook page, reads:

“The fight for mankind's survival will soon be spreading to PSP go... Join the N.O.V.A. Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance and experience this acclaimed sci-fi FPS on your PSP.”

We gave the game a 9/10 Gold Award when we reviewed it on iPhone at the end of 2009. Since then it’s made its way onto iPad and Android, although neither version quite matches up to the original.

The PSP version will feel rather different, of course, and it’ll be interesting to see how Gameloft copes with the handheld’s physical controls. They're not renowned for offering great FPS performance, with the presence of only a single (and rather unsuitable) analogue nub making it a tricky proposition.

Having said that, there are plenty who would say worse about the iPhone's touch controls, so this could be the best way to play the game for many.

The Sony version will also lack multiplayer, which is a limitation of the Minis service rather than any omission on Gameloft’s part.
