International Athletics running towards PSP (and DS)

We didn't hear this realistic sports sim coming, though

Product: International Athletics | Developer: Ghostlight | Publisher: Ghostlight | Genre: Simulation, Sports | Networking: wireless (adhoc), on one device
We don't mind admitting we were surprised to receive PSP screenshots of International Athletics today. It's not so much that we weren't expecting them, or that the appearance of sports-based titles as we near the Olympics isn't to be expected. Rather, it's the fact that we weren't aware of the title.

The images arrived without information but a little digging has revealed Ghostlight as the publisher (and potential developer) for what promises to be a realism-filled athletics simulation for both Sony and Nintendo's handhelds.

In total, 13 events are included (archery, discus throw, javelin, high jump, 110m hurdles, pistol shooting, pole vault, shot put, long jump, rifle shooting, 100m, 400m and 1500m) and structure is given through Career, Tournament, Quick Event, Practice and online four-player modes (for both PSP and DS, apparently).

There is talk of unlocking extra events (though we're not sure whether this is in addition to the 13 already revealed, or if it relates to the fact that not all will be available from the start), stadia and hidden items though the acquisition of medals, trophies and record-breaking performances.

A Decathlon option also features, though again this isn't clear if it's an unlockable affair.

The realism extends to claims of superior character animation and modelling (you can create your own athlete with personalised attributes), as well as authentic recreations of some of the world's most famous arenas such as Barcelona, Paris, Niigata, Ataturk and, of course, Beijing. Oh, and it's endorsed by UK Athletics, too.

There's no official release date yet, although we've spotted it listed online as coming on July 14th (for PSP, at least).
