PSP Go!Messenger service launches
Video chat, voice chat and instant messaging now available at 2,500 BT Openzone hotspots
Sony has announced the launch of its wireless communication package for PSP, Go!Messenger, which is to be made available from the PSP Store this Friday.
Originally due in January and developed in partnership with BT, the service enables PSP users to keep in touch with each other from any wireless broadband internet connection. So you can video, voice and instant message your friends (you'll need a Go!Cam to do the video bit, though).
Clearly you can do that from your home wi-fi network but when you're out and about you have the choice of 2,500 BT Openzone hotspots, located in and around the UK's city centres, to contact PSP-carrying chums for free.
"With Go!Messenger, the PSP is pushing new boundaries, adding unique communication features to all the existing multimedia experiences," said Stephane Hareau, PSP European marketing manager, presumably via video messaging. "Enabling more than 8.5 million PSP users across the SCEE region to communicate with each other, through video or voice chat, truly confirms the always evolving nature and potential of PSP."
Which is all very good (particularly for those who don't own a mobile phone). But let's not lose the focus on the gaming side of things, eh?
