Incoming! The most exciting 3DS and PS Vita games for April 2014
|

At the start of each month, I put together a big list of all the exciting Vita and 3DS games heading your way.

I then add a few words summing up those incoming games, and include some pictures to make everything look nice.

And you've just found said list! Well done, you.

April's going to be a pretty good month if you're the owner of a Nintendo or Sony handheld, for there is seemingly a little something for everyone this month - from footie to farming; old favourites to new classics; Three Kingdoms to One Ring.

Let's take a look...

PlayStation Vita

Dynasty Warriors 8: Complete Edition
By Tecmo Koei - out on April 4th in Europe

After debuting in the States in March, this hack 'n' slash-a-thon from Tecmo Koei is set to grace Western shores this April.

The game will, we imagine, be a fully expanded version of the original Dynasty Warriors 8, with some extra gubbins chucked on top for good measure.

Sly Trilogy
By Sucker Punch - out on April 18th in Europe

First re-released on the PlayStation 3, this Vita anthology of the PlayStation 2 cult classics contains Sly's first three adventures.

Suffice it to say, they've all been spruced up a bit with high-definition visuals. Oh, and there are a few extras in this package, too.

Football Manager Classic 2014
By Sega - out on April 11th in Europe

I couldn't give a monkey's about football. I'm definitely in the minority, though, because the Football Manager series sells like particularly delicious hot cakes each and every year.

You'll be able to do pretty much everything you can in the "proper" PC version of the game in this outing, and it's even cross-compatible with your home desktop save. Goalllll!

Demon Gaze
By NIS America - out on April 22nd in the US; out on April 25th in Europe

A quick Google Images search for Demon Gaze reveals this game's intended audience (and a lot more besides).

Our Matt has described this dungeon-crawler as the Vita's "answer to Etrian Odyssey". And from everything I've seen thus far, it will feature intense turn-based battles with art that's of a very, err, high quality.

Nintendo 3DS

Super Mario Bros. 3
By Nintendo - out on April 17th in the US

Pay attention: Super Mario Bros. 3 is one of the finest video games of all time.

If you haven't played it yet and you're over 16 years of age, this 3DS outing represents your last chance to do so before I come around your house and set fire to everything you own to teach you a much-needed lesson in gaming taste.

You have been warned.

Hometown Story
By Rising Star Games - out in "April" in Europe

There are three people involved in the development of Hometown Story that should make you very excited about this upcoming game.

The first is Yasuhiro Wada, the original creator of Harvest Moon. The second is Atsuko Nishida, one of the leading talents on the Pokemon games. The third is Nobuo Uematsu, the legendary composer of Final Fantasy's soundtrack.

That's the theory, at least. The game itself is a little hit and miss.

Nintendo Pocket Football Club
By ParityBit - out April 17th in Europe

It's more football, so, again, normally I wouldn't be interested.

But NPFC has such an appealing visual style, and seemingly simple but flexible controls, that I might just have to give this a go.

It may look like a Virtual Console game at first blush, but there are online tournaments, extensive StreetPass features, and downloadable content to extend the experience.

Lego The Hobbit: The Video Game (also available on Vita)
By TT Games - out on April 8th in the US; out on April 11th in Europe

Based on the series of movies (which themselves are, of course, based on Tolkien's book) of the same name, this is a brick-based, family-friendly retelling of the celluloid adaptation.

Expect blocky shenanigans starring your favourite characters, with a tongue-in-cheek twist on the story.

Peter Willington

Die hard Suda 51 fan and professed Cherry Coke addict, freelancer Peter Willington was initially set for a career in showbiz, training for half a decade to walk the boards. Realising that there's no money in acting, he decided instead to make his fortune in writing about video games. Peter never learns from his mistakes.
