Super Meat Boy on PS Vita will have a new soundtrack as original couldn't be re-licensed

Super Meat Boy finally comes out for PS Vita (and PS4) this week but it won't have its original soundtrack.

"Long story short, we couldn't secure the rights to include the old soundtrack with the re-release of the game on PS4/Vita," writes Tommy Refenes of developer Team Meat.

A little more insight into this is given by the person able to give Team Meat the rights to use the original soundtrack. Yep, it's composer Danny Baranowsky.

Writing on his own blog, Baranowsky says that he "no longer has a working relationship with Team Meat" after ending it a couple of years ago for reasons he didn't disclose.

He also gave more specific reasoning as to why he didn't license his soundtrack out for the PlayStation versions of Super Meat Boy:

"I didn't feel like the license fee and exposure through PSN they offered was enough to make me seriously consider accepting the deal. I decided to decline their offer."

Due to this, the PlayStation versions of Super Meat Boy will have a new soundtrack.

Matthias Bossi and Jon Evans aka Ridiculon, who worked on The Binding of Issac's soundtrack, have provided the tunes to the majority of the game.

David 'Scattle' Scatliffe of Hotline Miami fame has provided "moody" tracks for The Hospital and Salt Factory levels.

Lastly, Laura Shigihara (composer of Plants vs. Zombies) has scored Bandage Girl's levels (among the hardest in the game) and given them a "gentle feminine touch" with her music.
