Signs of life have surfaced from Studio Liverpool, the developer of the PS Vita racing game
Wipeout 2048.
Those vital signs are particularly important, as Studio Liverpool was
unexpectedly shuttered by Sony after 28 years of developing games earlier this summer.
After an abrupt closing on August 22nd, Sony announced that it would retain rights to the
Wipeout franchise but also stated that all games then in development by Studio Liverpool would be canceled.
Wipeout resurrection? While Studio Liverpool remains officially defunct, a mysterious message appeared on the Pocket Gamer Silver Award-winning
Wipeout 2048's
Twitter and
Facebook pages, reading simply 'WE. ARE. ALIVE.'
Whether or not the 'WE' in the cryptic message refers to the game itself (future DLC or a new
Wipeout title is always a possibility) or Studio Liverpool or a start up from the studio remains unclear, but the phrasing of the simple declaration hints at something more profound than a new batch of DLC.
It is not known at time of writing who was responsible for the posting of the message, but with any luck they'll keep us updated with any news concerning Studio Liverpool and the fate of the
Wipeout franchise.
