Updated on August 19th, at 22:49: Never fear, European Spelunky fans. A missive on the game's official Twitter account reveals that the randomly ruthless rougelike will hit our version of PlayStation Network one day later, on August 28th.

We are officially stoked and possibly even jazzed.

Ruthless roguelike platformer Spelunky will descend onto PlayStation Vita next week, in North America at least, and will come at a discounted price for PlayStation Plus subscribers.

Spelunky asks you to explore a deep and labyrinthine cave system, made up of mines, jungles, ancient temples, and frozen ice worlds. Each room is randomly generated, so you'll never see the same layout twice.

Along the way you'll beat up enemies, collect cash, save damsels in distress, unearth secrets, and generally try to stay alive. Because if you die, it's all the way back to the beginning for you, kiddo.

The game is brutally difficult, but nothing beats the thrill of reaching its later levels and knowing that one wrong move could land you in a pit of spikes (or in a man-eating plant's belly or lost down a bottomless hole) and scupper your entire run.

Spelunky

Spelunky will hit PlayStation Network in the US on August 27th. It will cost $14.99, but if you've got PlayStation Plus and get the game before September 2nd, you'll only pay $11.99.

Also, the game is Cross Buy, which means you'll get the PS3 version as part of your purchase. Not too shabby.

Spelunky will be joined by three other upcoming PSN games, as part of Sony's PS Vita Summer Selects promo. Single-move fighter Divekick's out tomorrow for $9.99 ($7.99 with plus) and rhythm basher KickBeat will hit September 3rd for the same price.

Retro-style role player Dragon Fantasy: Book II hits September 10th for $14.99, or $11.99 if you've got Plus and buy the game within the first week.

Spelunky

We'll let you know when we've got a European launch date for Spelunky on Vita. In fact, we will shout it at the top of our lungs like the mating call of some weird frog.
