Updated on April 17th, at 10:30: European gamers can grab the free Soul Sacrifice demo now, from the Sony Entertainment Network web store.

At long last, the wait for the twisted, Vita-exclusive Soul Sacrifice is (almost) over.

The PlayStation Blog confirms that a free demo has arrived on the PlayStation Network in North America on Tuesday with a European release to follow on Wednesday.

Unlike many other demos, Soul Sacrifice's trial version includes the entire first chapter of the game with multiplayer support for up to three other players.

If that sounds like a lot to play through - don't worry. The demo's save data will carry over to the full version of the game so you won't need to replay what you've already seen.

As if that wasn't enough to entice players, Soul Sacrifice's demo also includes an exclusive "Spirit's Heart" item that summons a stone golem to fight for you.

I'm soul'd

The story of Soul Sacrifice takes place in a massive, demonic book and follows the trials of your hero after they're used as a sacrificial offering.

Once inside the book, the hero must fight against a variety of monsters in a quest to stay human.

From what we've heard of the soundtrack and seen of its pre-order bonuses, Soul Sacrifice looks like quite the impressive title for the Vita. If you've been on the fence about it, be sure to try the demo once it's live on the PSN.

Soul Sacrifice arrives in North America on April 30 and comes to Europe on May 1.
