After an incredibly successful run as a digital-only title, indie-platformer Shovel Knight is making the big leap to retail.

For handheld gamers, that means you'll be able pick up a real-life 3DS version on October 13th in North America and October 16th in Europe.

An MSRP of $19.99 has been suggested for the American release, but no price has been offered for the European release. Given usual price logic, it'll probably be £19.99.

There's also a bunch of home console versions, and a PC release exclusive to Europe. But a Vita announcement was curiously missing from the list.

When asked in the comments of the announcement, the devs simply said there are no plans for a retail Vita version "at the moment", but they'd love to make one eventually.

The boxed edition contains the game and all the extra content released so far, along with what is described as a "lavish instruction booklet".

There's also a bunch of new modes coming out for both digital and retail owners, with three more campaigns and a body-swap mode due out in the future.

Our reviewer gave Shovel Knight our Gold Award, saying it "stuffs a lot of great mechanics into its downloadable package."

So if you're not a fan of downloads or just like owning physical copies of games, keep an eye out for it when it launches in October.
