Ripstone pledges allegiance to PS Vita despite slow sales
Unflappable commitment
PS Vita hasn't had an easy time of things lately as recent sales figures suggest, but that isn't stopping Ripstone from focusing its efforts on Sony's handheld.
The Liverpool-based publisher brought VooFoo Studio's Pure Chess to the PS Vita and PlayStation 3 earlier in 2012, and is now dedicating its efforts to publishing a trio of new independent games for the Sony faithful to enjoy.
Ripstone announced that it is planning to bring Big Sky Infinity a procedurally-generated shooter from Boss Baddie and Knytt Underground (the latest installment of Nifflas' Knytt stories) to the PS Vita by the year's end, along with Panic! from the new studio Thumbs Up.
Like the Pocket Gamer Bronze Award-winner Pure Chess, all three of these indie games will feature PS3 Cross Play.
Some love for the Vita
Speaking with Gamasutra, Ripstone's creative director and co-founder Phil Gaskell explains his company's decision:
"I'm a passionate hardcore gamer, and I love my Vita… I don't see another portable device currently servicing hardcore gamers. There are other devices out there, but none of them are dedicated gaming machines as good as this one."
Whether these three new games will enjoy the success of Pure Chess remains to be seen, but PS Vita owners will no doubt welcome the effort by Ripstone all the same.
