Every week, Pocket Gamer provides a weekly digest of the most important and popular stories from these digital pages.

Mobile gamers: the virtual reality revolution has begun.

This week, Samsung announced a new phone called the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, which can slot into a fancy head-mounted gizmo to become an impromptu virtual reality headset.

It's built in collaboration with Oculus, and there are a heap of awesome games on the horizon like Omega Agent from The Room maker Fireproof, Land's End from Monument Valley developer Ustwo, first-person sprint 'em up Temple Run VR, and two games from nDreams.

Exciting stuff. We'll be watching (and playing) all these games with great interest. So keep an eye on Pocket Gamer if you're excited about the world of virtual reality.

Angry Birds Stella

Meanwhile, in the boring world of reality, we got Angry Birds Stella - Rovio's female-focused spin-off that stars pinky bird Stella and a cast of predominately girly birds.

We weren't that impressed - Harry said "Is it innovative? No. Is it worth getting excited about? No," in his 6/10 review.

But we did chat to Rovio about whether the game is a patronising "girls' game", and we've kicked off our exhaustive walkthrough to the game, its levels, its birds, and a cute secret mini-game.

For reviews, we looked at games like Mikey Boots, 8bit Doves, Velocity 2X, Epic Eric, Hohokum, Back to Bed, and Duke Dashington.

80 Days

Games like The Firm, 80 Days, and Motorsport Manager appeared on our list of the best iOS games from August, while Deep Under The Sky, Skulls of the Shogun, and Max Gentlemen represented Android's month in gaming.

Apple's got a press conference next week where it will likely show the iPhone 6 and a smartwatch. To get you in the mood we put together a rumour round-up for Apple's new phone and an explainer on how gaming works on smartwatches.

We also asked who makes the best games: Scotland or England, took a look at stunning monochrome heist game Calvino Noir, and choose the 37 best retro games on Nintendo 3DS.

And we looked at all the incoming Vita and 3DS games for September, and the best gaming phones you can get on the cheap.

Pirates

In the world of news, Assassin's Creed Pirates stepped off the plank and went free to play, Infinity Blade III and Wayward Souls got hefty updates, censorship simulator The Westport Independent is coming to iOS, The Room 3 was announced, and Super Meat Boy Forever is an auto-runner for tablets.

Around Steel Media

This week, the 148Apps team reviewed Valiant Hearts, Heavy Metal Thunder, Tiny Tower Vegas and much more - and no Elvis impersonators were harmed in the process. Read all about it.
