The night before Christmas, and Sony brings the goods

Product: PlayStation Vita | Manufacturer: Sony Computer Entertainment

You know what the PS Vita could do with the week before Christmas? A stonking selection of new downloadable games to keep us going on Christmas morning and beyond.

And wouldn't you know it, Sony seems more than happy to provide the goods.

If you know you're getting a PS Vita for Christmas, you're going to want to pick up some of the following games now.

Merry Christmas, everyone!

Full-price releases

What do we know about escapeVektor? Well, it's from Australian developer Nnooo, whom you might recognise as the team responsible for the Spirit Hunters series on Nintendo DSi.

We're also aware that escapeVektor is an arena shooter set inside a computer. As for its price, well, it'll set you back £7.99. Is it any good, though? Watch this space for a review.

Knytt Underground is one that we're definitely excited about. It's from well-know indie dev Nicklas Nygren, and it's part of the Knytt exploration series.

The game costs £9.99 / $14.99, and if you buy it for PlayStation 3, you get the PS Vita version for free. Oh, and if you're a PS Plus subscriber, you might want to scroll down now...

MotorStorm RC Complete Edition contains the original game and all the DLC goodness. It costs £7.29, and it's really great. Read our review of MotorStorm RC if you don't believe me.

And what about Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath HD? It's an HD remake of the original 2005 Xbox release, and it looks mightily tasty. I'm currently playing it, so expect a verdict soon. If you want to just go for it, though, it'll cost you £9.99 / $14.99.

Here's something interesting: Jetpack Joyride is free-to-play on mobile devices, but costs money on PS Vita. Well, not any more, actually, as it's now also free-to-play on Vita. Why it had a price tag in the first place is anyone's guess, but it's good to see the developer coming to its senses.

Do you enjoy playing chess? How about Pure Chess? There's a new Festive Bundle out for it now. We assume that bundle includes the game and the DLC.

Americans! This week, you can get your hands on a digital version of Sonic All-Stars Racing Transformed for $29.99, and Burn the Rope for $3.99. Read here why the latter isn't such a hot deal.

PlayStation Plus

So, here's something a bit tasty - European PS Plus subscribers get some pretty neat freebies this week.

Mortal Kombat is now completely free to download, as is the newly released Knytt Underground. Meanwhile, Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath HD has had 25 per cent lopped off its full price.

American PS Plus subscribers don't have any fresh free Vita games to play this week, but you do get a ton of discounts, including money off LittleBigPlanet and Rayman Origins.

Don't forget to grab Tales from Space: Mutant Blobs Attack if you haven't already, by the way. It won't be free on PS Plus from next week, so be quick.

PlayStation Mobile releases

In contrast to the abundance of new full-price Vita releases this week, there isn't a single fresh PS Mobile game on the Vita Store. Booo!

However, you will find a new PS minis game in each region. Europeans can purchase the Futro Bundle for £3.99. This package from FuturLab contains the wonderful Velocity and Coconut Dodge.

American Vita players, meanwhile, can bag the hotel-management game Hotel Mogul for $2.99. Do you like building hotels? This is the game for you, then. Maybe.

PSP and PSone Classics

There are no new PSP or Classics releases this week.

However, if you head over to the US PSN store, you'll find a ridiculous number of PSP games discounted, such as brill puzzler Crush (pictured above).

We'd list them all, but, honestly, there are way too many.

Just head to the store, hit 'PSP', and you'll find them all bundled together in the sales area. Well worth a gander if you have never owned a PSP before.
