|
Updated on August 29th, at 17:35: The PlayStation Store on Vita is now bursting at the seams with the PSone classics below. Prices start at just 99p. Fan favourite Metal Gear Solid, however, is nowhere to be seen... Updated on August 30th, at 13:12: We've added the prices for all the games that are available. Thanks to NeoGAF user HiddenAway for the legwork.

PS Vita owners will get a chance to revisit PlayStation classics like Metal Gear Solid, Silent Hill, and Resident Evil tomorrow, as Sony plans to dump 129 retro games on the Vita's Store.

You'll be able to get the games from the Vita directly or transfer them over from a PS3. If you've already bought a game on PS3 or PSP, you'll be able to download it on your Vita for free.

The games will let you change screen size, futz with the memory cards, fiddle with controller settings, and switch CDs for multi-disc epics like Final Fantasy VII.

Don Mesa, director of product planning at SCE, says more games will be available in "phased rollouts, every week".

American idiot

The US line-up is a little less impressive. Actually, it's faintly embarrassing, as only a piddling nine games are available from the Store.

That's Arc the Lad, Cool Boarders 2, Final Fantasy VII, Hot Shots Golf 2, Jet Moto, Syphon Filter, Tomb Raider, Twisted Metal 2, and Wild Arms.

However, the guys over at NeoGAF have found that you can get more games - including Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, and Mega Man - by buying them on the PS3 shop and transferring them over USB. See that constantly expanding list here.

Will the same trick work in Europe (to get even more games at launch)? We'll let you know tomorrow.

This is all part of the Vita's 1.80 update, which is available now. Alongside PSone support, 1.80 lets you control the home screen and media players with buttons, adds playlists to music, automatic thumbnails to video, and photo transfer to group messaging.

Also, the browser has been tweaked, and you can use the rear touch panel to manipulate websites. Plus, there's Cross Controller support, which will eventually work with compatible PS3 games like LittleBigPlanet 2.
