Sony has finally revealed what you can do with all of those dusty UMD disks when you upgrade your handheld to a shiny new PS Vita.

According to the gaming giant, it will release a "UMD Passport" initiative - starting in Japan on December 6th - that will allow you to purchase (yes, purchase) digital copies of your PSP games for between £4 and £12.

To use this new scheme, you'll need access to your PSP console and all of the UMDs you want to transfer over. You'll then need to download a UMD Registration Application on your PSP, access it from your XMB, and then follow the on-screen instructions to register your game.

Sony's catalogue of digital titles will feature 200 games from 40 publishers, so there's no guarantee your favourite amusement will be included.

While Sony's solution is much better than completely losing access to your library of games, it does mean you have to - once again - dip your hands in your pockets and spend some cash.
