Incoming! The most exciting Vita games for May 2015
|

I'm not going to lie... we're a little light on games this month. No killer apps in particular, but then again, when was the last time we had one of those?

This month we have a couple of indie games, a couple of particularly Japanese games, an evil game that makes us want to buy cool figures, and some spiffy DLC.

Let's accentuate the positive though. If you're a PlayStation Plus subscriber, you have four free games this month: The Unfinished Swan, Race the Sun, Hohokum, and Murasaki Baby. Bag 'em while you can.

Cosmophony
Bento / Moving Player - 5th (North America), 6th (Europe)

A minimalist drum 'n' bass rhythm shooter. If anything ever looked to be my cup of tea, this is it.

Disney Infinity 2.0
Avalanche Software / Disney Interactive Studios - 9th (North America), 22nd (Europe)

Sequel to the first NFC figure-based game that really kicked off the craze. Now with Marvel characters, alongside the usual Disney and Pixar chums. No Captain Britain though, so I'm out.

Ultratron
Puppy Games / Curve Digital - 12th (North America, Europe)

Robotron 2084 brought back to life with extra explosions and more neon colours. As it's cross-buy you'll also receive the PS3 and PS4 versions.

Hyperdimension Neptunia U: Action Unleashed
Tamsoft / Idea Factory - 19th (North America), 22nd (Europe)

This action spin-off from the Hyperdimension Neptunia series is laden with jokes and references to the games industry. Very "meta," as the youths say.

Features the usual amount of dodginess associated with these titles thanks to a critical hit system directly linked to how ripped each CPU's clothes are.

Steins;Gate
5pb / PQube - 22nd (North America, Europe)

My pick of the month is this highly-acclaimed visual novel. I've been told time and time again that if there's one game out there to get you into visual novels, this is it.

Yes, it's based in weeaboo paradise Akihabara, but the art style and phone-based story progression set it apart from the glut of dating simulation visual novels.

Zen Pinball 2 'Portal Pinball' DLC
Zen Studios - 26th (North America), 27th (Europe)

This unexpected crossover brings the Aperture Science Heuristic Portal Pinball Device to our hands, with Chell and Wheatley along for the ride. An instabuy if you're a fan of the futuristic, post-apocalyptic puzzler, or just a huge pinball nerd.

Hey Valve, why's Half-Life 2 and Portal on Nvidia Shield, but not Vita? Guys?

Japanese highlight:

Chaos Rings collection
Square Enix - 7th (Japan)

While the smartphone RPG collection received a retail release on Vita Japan last year, the four titles held within (Chaos Rings, Chaos Rings II, Chaos Rings III, and Chaos Rings Omega) are being released individually on the PlayStation Store.

Chance for localisation: 38.14%. All but Chaos Rings III have been localised already, and the original Chaos Rings is currently available in the West on PlayStation Mobile (but not for long).

Still though, Square Enix hasn't announced a western release for Chaos Rings III, so I'd lower your expectations. The good news is that if you import the physical copy, the original three games have an English option.
